Codependency, recovery, The disease of addiction

Open Letter To Our Friends & Family

This road has not been easy for us and yes, the choices that we have made have brought us here but those were our choices to make and our consequences to face.

The journey we have walked is going to be exposed as my husband starts to share his journey of; multiple rehabs, clean time, rock bottoms and ultimately the path that led us to recovery and Jesus Christ, our savior.

This letter is to our friends and family, that although most are aware of the journey we have preserved through, they might not know the extent of how far we went.

We have lied, covered up, made excuses, broken trusts, hidden away, damaged relationships and pulled away from so many people that have loved us, supported us and wanted the best for us.

Unless you have walked this road, it is difficult to understand the things that we have done. The manifestation of guilt and shame that pushed us to extreme measures. Please understand this is not an excuse but these things have happened and now we want to share our journey with others suffering.

We are not proud of the things we have done, the family and friends that we have hurt, or who may be hurt as our raw and honest story unfolds.

There are less than a handful of people that know EVERYTHING, the rest we have shared information on our terms, to safeguard ourselves. Because honestly, you get sick and tired of telling the same story over and over again. It also becomes difficult to face the reactions of the people we love, mainly its disappointment and frankly we have been so disappointed on this journey that it was hard to take on another’s.

We struggled to take the advice we didn’t agree with or to stand up to our loved ones about the choices we made. We were just as sick as the addict.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

And at some point, we were all insane. Desperately trying to save a man, a husband, a father, a son, a brother and a friend.

We are sorry for those that got pushed away for no reason, who got hurt by our actions. You didn’t deserve it. As we share our road of hardships and restoration, there are going to be things that we have done brought into the light, lies that we may have told to you. For this we are sorry. it was not intentional and not for any other reason than us desperately trying to save a man that we loved.

The only way that this blog is going to work, and our hope of helping others is going to matter, is if we are completely honest, vulnerable and exposed. There is no other way.

And trust me, this makes me fearful. Fear of judgment, fear of hurting friends and family and fear of broken trust being brought into light. But I know that the plan and purpose that Jesus has for our lives will no longer lead us to hurt our loved ones. We have been saved and washed in the blood of Jesus. Our old lives are over and we are born again in the love of Christ. Our sins were forgiven, big and small, the moment we accepted Jesus in our hearts and we rose from that water, reborn. A new pair of eyes as my husband calls it.

As long we are following in his plan, we know that we can help others on their journey of this misunderstood and baffling disease

We ask that you please keep an open mind, this is our past, we don’t live there anymore, but its real, it happened and we have a story of hope, courage and most importantly the love of GOD to share.

Sincerely,

Chris & Sade Lee

  2. We do what we need to protect our loved ones because we feel it’s the right thing to do. Your past is just that and the fact that you have been able to get to a place where God is your now your future and your direction is a positive and great way forward. You were ruled by a sickness of which you had no control prayers to you both for the strength needed forward.
